The Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV) has successfully passed the European Commission’s Pillar Assessment, a rigorous evaluation that confirms the organisation’s credibility to directly manage and implement EU funds.

This recognition establishes ESTDEV as a trusted implementing partner of the European Commission, capable of managing EU resources under indirect management.

“This is a significant milestone for ESTDEV and for Estonia’s role in international development,” said Klen Jäärats, Executive Director of ESTDEV.  "ESTDEV is already participating in ten Team Europe initiatives and has secured a total of 14 million euros from EU. This accreditation enables ESTDEV to take on a larger role in implementing EU-funded projects globally, supporting democratic governance, economic resilience, and human development in our partner countries,” Jäärats added.

The assessment evaluated eight critical areas including internal controls, accounting systems, public procurement, external audits, financial instruments, data protection, reporting, and project management. ESTDEV met all criteria, demonstrating its institutional capacity, transparency, and accountability at the level required by the European Commission.

With this accreditation, ESTDEV will be eligible to apply for and implement EU-funded international cooperation initiatives, further advancing Estonia’s foreign policy goals and strategic contributions to global security and sustainable development.

ESTDEV is the third Estonian organisation to receive this accreditation, following the E-Governance Academy and the Estonian Information System Authority (RIA).
