Primary students in Moldova participate in digital assessments under auspices of ESTDEV project
At the end of February, 25 fourth-grade students participated in a pilot test where they used digital assessment tools for the first time.
This e-assessment was part of the project "Future Technology Activity for Education,” a project funded by the Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV) focused on the digital transformation of Moldovan education.
The students had one hour to solve 14 math problems. In addition to the math problems, the students answered questions about their understanding of the questions presented in the assessment.
Lilia Ivanov, director of Moldova's National Curriculum and Assessment Board, told local media that the results of this digital assessment, including the development of students' digital skills, are being analysed.
Anna Alen, ESTDEV project manager, said that the use of digital assessments is one of the focus areas of the Moldovan education digital transformation project. "E-assessment is important in education because it allows teachers to monitor students' progress, helps identify students' strengths and weaknesses and provides feedback to teachers and students," said Alen.
According to Alen, e-assessment encourages teachers and students to employ new technologies and develop digital skills, contributing to the education system's efficiency and overall improvement.
The Moldovan Ministry of Education and Research and the Estonian Education and Youth Board contributed to the successful implementation of the project's pilot test. This May will see the second piloting of e-testing in maths for 4th graders, with more Moldovan schools participating nationwide.
